Student Athlete Mental Health Awareness Week: The Weight of Sports with Declyn
About this episode
In recognition of Student-Athlete Mental Health Awareness Week, LTU freshman and nursing major Declyn joins us to highlight the importance of mental health among student-athletes. This week brings awareness to the pressures student-athletes experience while balancing academics, possible injuries, and expectations. As an athlete on both LTU’s football and cheerleading teams, as well as a former baseball and wrestling athlete, Declyn discusses how each sport has shaped his mental health. He also discusses mental health stigma, differences in how athletes express vulnerability, and the importance of support from the team.
